No matter our age, we find ourselves coming back to Mom whenever we need life advices, a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on; she’s our life-long best friend, private therapist and counselor, full-time master chef, trusty financial advisor, oh the list could be endless...in other words, she’s our everything, from the very beginning.

We sit down with TSW very own super-heroine, Jamie, this Mother’s Day to share with us the ups and downs of Motherhood, the little quirks of her two adorable children and some of her advices and fashion tips for new or aspiring mothers out there!

I love to see how Shane hugs his sister and this gives me a sense of satisfaction that having 2 kids is the best choice ever; they can grow up together as playmates. Shane has a more introverted personality, he takes sometime to warm up, while Shanice is more extroverted, she’s a lot more cheeky! She loves to smile and talk to strangers whenever we are in the lift! She is very playful and loves to explore her surroundings whenever we bring her to a new place.

Happiness. Both of my kids bring me so much happiness and joy! I cannot live without both of them! I just feel very incredible that I have managed to push 2 little humans out of my body and it’s so amazing to watch them grow and hitting all their milestones!

Honestly speaking, being a mum is very challenging and tiring at times. However, the rewards I received outweigh all the challenges I faced, so I really do find great joy in doing my mommy duties! I love to watch them grow and experience the changes I see in them. I always gets kisses from my first child after a day of work and this is enough for me to forget all my fatigue and stress. Just last week, my second child has started walking, it has bring me so much joy again to see the success of my little one hitting yet another milestone. I enjoy special moments like these to the fullest!

Always have sufficient rest. It’s tough to get your usual 8 hours of sleep daily, but you can sneak in small breaks throughout the day to rest. With a newborn at home and also from breastfeeding, it’ll put a toll on your body as these will take up a lot of your energy. So best advise is to try and get sleep when the baby sleeps so you can give your body a break.

I didn’t know that breastfeeding can be so hard, painful and challenging. I remembered I overslept for a couple of hours resulting in engorged boobs, so lesson learnt, I made sure I set a lot of alarms and wake up every 3-4 hours to pump. I also didn’t know that it’s so tough to make a toddler sleep on her own. Sometimes I would take about 1-2 hours to make her sleep and by then I am totally drained out.

It’s that sweet moment when I return home from work and seeing the excitement on their faces. They just missed me so much even though we get to see each other everyday. Both of them would come running to me for a big hug and have their widest smile throughout. It melts my heart whenever they kiss me on my cheeks.

Always accept help whenever you need. Sometimes it’s good to have some me-time to recharge before taking over the role of the mum again. For a period of time, my mother-in-law would help look after my elder child while I got busying taking care of my newborn. Don’t be afraid to reach out for help, it will not make you less of a great mum! Prioritize your physical and mental health because a happy mum means a happy baby!
